Uncomfortable York™ - Small Private Tour
Private tour for up to 8 participants
Service Description
Join us on a unique walking tour of the city, questioning the historical landscape and the narratives commonly told about York. Walking through the beautiful city centre, you will discuss historical memory, industrial heritage, and uncover the colonial significance of 'chocolate city’. This tour invites attendees to see beneath the surface and uncover the lesser known histories of York. The tour is researched, written, and delivered by academics and students at the University of York. They ask questions that provoke new ways of seeing the city landscape and its history, encouraging attendees to bring their personal experiences and views to the group discussion. This tour is being launched as part of a UK-wide expansion of the social enterprise Uncomfortable Oxford and is kindly supported by the University of York Institute for the Public Understanding of the Past (IPUP) and the Rowntree Society. *Accessibility:* The tour features several stops around the centre of York over the course of 1.5 hours. Tour contains no stairs or curbs, but please note sometimes uneven pavement in the city centre and crowding on busy days.
